Local internet marketing can be very beneficial to almost any online business. 

While it is obviously important to reach as many people as possible, it is also important to make sure that you target the people in your own specific area. 

The reason for this is that, marketing your online business to people in your specific locality can actually increase your profits. I know this might seem a bit illogical but it’s true.

Of course, this does not mean that you will make that much money when starting out. The people I am talking about are marketing veterans both offline and online.

Thirdly, local internet marketing allows you to provide your customers with higher massive value physical products without having to pay extremely high shipping fees.

So for example, if you sell someone a set of DVD’s that train them how to perform a specific task, you could also include extra bonuses like books, other DVD’s and a coffee mug without worrying about the weight of your package too much.

It will cost a fraction of what you would pay to send a similar package overseas.

If you provide your customers with massive value whenever they buy from you, they will make it a habit to always check whether you have the next product they want. And obviously this will only serve to make your online business more profitable.

So if local internet marketing can be that beneficial to your online business, how exactly can you start using it in your online business immediately? Here are 3 simple ways.

Local SEO

Firstly, you can create an SEO campaign that targets your local area. In order to do this, you need to find out what keywords people in your local area are using to search for the solutions that you have to offer.

When you find these out, you then need to include them in any content that you write specifically for your locality.

For example if you sell website design services in Las Vegas, you may find out that people in your area are searching for your services using the keywords “Las Vegas web design”.

You could then optimize your website by creating pages that focus on these keywords. 

Another SEO technique you can use to reach your local market is link building. What you need to do is to find credible authority websites that are related to your site and target your local market. Once you find these sites, create one way links from them to you.

You could for example, offer to write guest articles for them. Or if an authority site is a blog, you could leave interesting helpful comments after you read a blog post. Doing either of these things would create one way links to your website.

If it is too difficult to get one way links, you could offer to swap links. In other words, you could say, “I’m offering you an opportunity to include your website link on my website.

All I’m asking in exchange is for you to allow me to include my website link on your website as well”.

Since that would be beneficial to both parties, most people would say yes. Using SEO to acquire local customers will help you create steady stream of free local traffic to your website.   

Advertising on Local Websites

Another excellent way to do local internet marketing is to find other related local websites and buy advertising space from them.

Since they are local websites, they would probably already have your ideal audience. So using them to advertise your online business would allow you to easily reach your target market.

But don’t despair if you are not currently in a position to pay for advertising. There are other ways to do things. For instance, you could offer another local website an ad swap.

This means that you would place an ad on their site and allow them to place one on your site as well. This would allow both businesses to gain exposure to a whole new audience.

Local Offline Advertising

A third way to do local internet marketing is to advertise offline in news papers and magazines. This would enable you to tap into an entirely different market because there are some people who don’t really surf the web.

In order to use this method, you need to place advertisements in local newspapers and/or magazines and include a link to your website with each advert. People will then visit the link and wind up at your website.

If you are just starting out, I would advise buying classified ads in local newspapers. These are the most affordable. You will lose less money if (when) you make mistakes.

Magazine can be a bit more expensive. They are profitable of course but you need more money and skill in order to make sure you get a great return on every cent that you spend.

When you buy a classified ad in a newspaper, it’s best to offer something free like a free report. Host that report somewhere on your website and send people from the classified ad straight to the free report.

You can’t really sell anything using classified ads. All you can do is create curiosity so that people will want to find out more. But the only way to find out more is to download your free report from your website.

Your free report could then describe the benefits of buying your product and offer them a bit of free education. At the end, it could send them to your product sales page.

If you have written it well and targeted your audience well, people in your locality will buy your products.
